Canon Uriel, with the sword

Canon Uriel. Commissioned piece — and the one image on this site that shows her mid-office rather than at rest.

The flaming sword is the detail that matters. She is not born holding it. It is given to her after the Fall, when judgment is added to a being who was made to observe and record. Everything about this picture is the second half of her life, not the first.

She is descending. The sword is already lit.
